A jerrycan is a robust fuel container originally made from pressed steel. It was designed in Germany in the 1930s for military use to hold 20 litres. Nowadays also made in plastic, the colour denotes teh contents therein. Red and green for gasoline, yellow for diesel, tan or black for water. The term does not require translating but often "bidão" is used.
