Newsletters, webinars Dec 1

I have subscribed to a few industry newsletters, for example from professional organizations, and occasionally attend free webinars on the matter. Then there is MeinBDÜ, a non-public forum with quite some activity, LinkedIn translation forum updates received by email (albeit of varying quality), and, to a lesser extent, ProZ.com Translation news read here on the site. So we do keep up with the latest developments, I believe.

Why is 'i don't do anything' an option? If trends are about new ways in which I can automate as much of my work as possible, then well, I believe I already have all the automation tools I need to do my job well and fast. I won't spend any money on marginal improvements. If trends are about new conventions for translating things within my pair and domain, then well, I'm not that keen on adopting them just because others want to force me to do so. I have to adopt enough lame translation ways our customer swears by, so I prefer to act like a pro wherever I'm not banned from doing so. Modern trends often work from complex to primitive. So, for example, whenever they have to write a sustainability-loaded text in Russian, they usually replace this buzzword with stability (stable development, etc.). That's the convention. I take this word to be misleading and prefer to go for alternative translation options. Some customers will certainly want to complain about it, but at least I'll have something to say to defend my positionCollapse
