Normally, I work on my birthday, but I will be taking it off next year as I will be marking a landmark year and I didn't get to celebrate the last landmark at all due to the financial crisis, which resulted in me returning to University too start my translation studies course on my big day.

Recently I have been trying to celebrate my birthdays travelling. So if I can I do not work on this day. If I stay home then I work normally.

Birthdays have never been a big deal for me even when I was a young girl, usually I have a quiet celebration when there is time with close family, but I took two weeks off when I turned 50 and went to New York with my daughters.

if it were up to me. I don't think a birthday is such a big deal. But other people do, so next time is a "round" birthday for me (I won't tell you which )
and I might have to throw a party.

This year I was going to work but my friends surprised me with a party and that was the end of my plans. It was a milestone birthday, in fact, and I gifted myself by donating a fairly large young tree to my community. I get to see it from my windows and talk to it and hug it when no one is watching.

My birthday is often in the summer holiday, and was on a Saturday this year… so I celebrated with the family.
In earlier years, and when I sometimes worked at weekends, it was just an ordinary working day, because I was usually working as a relief when others were on holiday.
I celebrate when it suits the rest of the family or whoever I am planning to celebrate with, which often means working on my birthday.

Since my birthday comes around only once every four years, I will definitely not work at all on such a rare-occasion day.
