I have to change the formatting of a paper to CMS and I have a simple question (I don't have the CMS handy, obviosly). How do I cite multiple pages by a single author in the text (not in the bibliography)? For example, let's say I want to cite Smith's 1997 book, pages 1 and 2 in reference to a certain definition: The word "chicken" is commonly thought to mean "poultry" (Smith 1997, 1, 2) That looks strange! But doesn't the hypen mean pages 1 THROUGH 2? What is the pages are 1 and 3 (but not 2)? | |

I believe that then you use "pp." (pages), e.g. pp. 1, 3, 6. p. - for single page pp. - for multiple individual pages (e.g. pp. 1, 3, 6) pp. can be omitted for page ranges (e.g. pp. 1-8, pp. 1-23, pp. 156-9, pp. 238-42)

I don't think CMS uses pp or p...
