Bus/Financial - Finance (general) / bank statement
French term or phrase: COM. TAX.
This is in a bank statement:

COTIS HSBC HEXAGONE ZPMA XXX
01/05/2022 AU 31/05/2022
COM. TAX. EUR 20,28
TVA EUR 0,52

I realise that TVA = VAT, but what does COM. TAX. stand for???

taxed fees/commissions
Explanation:
My guess is those are commissions taken by the bank on which VAT is then assessed (VAT indicated below the amount of the main fee)

Asker: I did think of this, but was not sure, as TVA = VAT is in French

Asker: Also this is the bank statement of a married couple not company - but thanks

MONTHLY MAINTENANCE FEE

Explanation:
HSBC Hexagone is a package of banking products and services offered by HSBC France:

https://www.hsbc.fr/en-fr/banque-au-quotidien/produits/conve...

These are the fees for them.

See:

https://www.businessinsider.com/personal-finance/monthly-ban...

"A ***monthly maintenance fee*** (sometimes called a monthly service fee) is money a bank charges you for working with the company. The fee is usually automatically withdrawn from your account each month."

https://www.investopedia.com/articles/pf/07/bank_fees.asp

"Monthly Fees — One of the most common and straightforward fees banks charge is a ***monthly account maintenance fee*** for your checking or savings account."

A good tip when translating bank statements is to ignore most of the jargon ("commission d'intervention" and the likes), as these are just ways of dressing up bank fees and charges.

20.28 EUR per month seems about right, see fees here (page down to "HSBC Hexagone : les tarifs"):

To Phil and SafeTex: "COM. TAX" could be "commission taxation", but it doesn't really matter: if the name of the banking offering/package is mentioned, and the item is a charge of 10 or 20 EUR, then it's monthly maintenance fees.

I mentioned "commission d'intervention" in my last note above:

C'est quoi *une commission d'intervention* ?
La *commission d'intervention*, ou frais de forçage , est facturée par la banque pour chaque opération entraînant une irrégularité de fonctionnement du compte bancaire : exécution d'un ordre de prélèvement, d'un paiement par carte ou par chèque…Dec 14, 2021

Needless to say such jargon is of no use to consumers.

Notes to answerer
Asker: I would like reflect the original more closely. Your answer is helpful for context, but does not mention anything re. tax and the original doesn't mention a monthly fee (although it probably is). There is another item above "COTIS HSBC HEXAGONE" which would be the fee for the HSBC HEXAGONE package of services in general. Thanks for the contribution, but just not as expected!
