Hi Mikhail, i can explain what these are and give context, but i'm not sure how to express it in Russian. In the final year of high school, students take a big test that determines a lot of their college entrance and funding options. Much of the US takes the ACT exam. Often the date for registration or the testing day is in December. A good score can help you get accepted into a prestigious university. A poor score obviously looks bad on applications for universities and applications for scholarships. Since education at a university isn't free for anyone in the US, a lot of students depend on getting scholarships. But getting a scholarship can also be hard. Only the best students are usually chosen for "full ride" scholarships. Full ride being all expenses paid.

So in the context of this passage, the deadlines for scholarship applications are approaching, and the registration and/or ACT exam (or similar) is happening in addition to Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years with all the stress from extra events, gathering, and travel that goes with those three holidays. It's often a stressful time. Moreso if your child is in their last year of K-12 school.
