in the superior court of judicature in the high court of justice Vyšší Soud Judikatury; Vysoký Soudní Dvůr Explanation: I checked the Ghana Constitution (https://www.constituteproject.org/constitution/Ghana_1996.pd... to confirm the judiciary's structure, and the "Superior Courts of Judicature" (plural in the Constitution, though not in court documents, it seems) is there an umbrella term that includes the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, and the High Court, all of those having appellate or supervisory power over lower courts. (Similar info on the Ghanian courts' own page at https://judicial.gov.gh/index.php/the-high-court). I considered, but in the end don't see any strong reason to stick so close to the text as to say, "Vrchní Soud Spravedlnosti" instead of "Vysoký Soudní Dvůr." After all, a Czech paper on the structure of the British courts says about them (i.e., the British courts and not Ghana's): Rozlišeny jsou také pravomoce soudů k vydávání precedenčního rozhodnutí. Tuto pravomoc mají Supreme Court of Judicature (Nejvyšší soudní dvůr) se sídlem v Londýně, který se štěpí na Court of Appeal (Odvolací soud) a High Court of Justice (Vysoký soudní dvůr). --Source: https://is.muni.cz/th/c94vc/Rigorozni_prace-Pravni_systemy_a... That translation for the UK court seems somewhat established. Sor for it, maybe sticking to a term already known from the UK makes sense. But given that Ghana prefers "Superior" over "Supreme," I'd stick with "Vyšší" instead of "Nejvyšší"; and then since I don't like using "soudní dvůr" for both "Court of Judicature" AND "Court of Justice," (since after all they differ rather than being the same in the original Ghanian English terms), I'd maintain that distinction in the translation into Czech by keeping the reference to judicature. I can imagine other approaches, but that's my reasoning. |
