French term or phrase: invention des dieux
In a dossier about a new museum. Listing the themes that may be covered in exhibitions about the development of Mediterranean civilisations. Does this literally mean the invention of the idea of gods, or something else? Any help gratefully received!

invention of gods
Explanation:

agree  Helen Shiner: the invention of the gods, otherwise it would mean the gods's inventions which is not what is meant.
