To Whom It May Concern:

I have known Maria Bedoya for approximately ten years. My contact with Maria has been in the capacity of
Instructor, Paramedic, and Deputy Coroner.

My first contact with Maria was when she was teaching our medics Emergency Spanish. During those classes, she was realistic in her approach by teaching simple phrases.
Prior instructors in this area had taught more complex ideas such as ''where does it hurt?" While we were able to ask the question, those instructors did not adequately prepare us for the patient's answer to the question; nor did they prepare us for the barrage of foreign words we would receive by asking such a question.

In contrast, Maria taught us simple phrases such as "point to where it hurts." In addition, Maria helped us to better understand certain concepts in the Hispanic culture that directly affect their view of medical care, gender issues, and fear of exposure as an illegal immigrant.
Maria has been very accessible to all aspects of the public safety and medical communities in our area as an
interpreter. Moreover, she has provided these services voluntarily without charging for those services in the
interest of helping those unable to communicate with the English language.
Unlike many interpreters, Maria is able to effectively translate both words and concepts without getting bogged down in either component. She has been very valuable with our local coroner's office in helping to solve an unexplained death.
Had it not been for Maria's willingness to get up in the middle of the night and show up at the scene, a murderer may have escaped without paying for his crime. In addition, her transcripts of such incidents are professional, concise, and stand-up to scrutiny by opposing council.
Without hesitation, I recommend Maria for any role that may involve translation skills. She is dependable,
knowledgeable and has the rare ability to effectively translate from Spanish to English or from English to
Spanish without loosing concepts nor changing intent. Typed documents are professional, accurate, and
delivered promptly.
