Mi interpretación proviene del diccionario RAE:

'acreedor -ra. Dicho de una persona, ‘que merece algo’. Se construye con un complemento introducido por a o de: «Se me comenzó a percibir como un legítimo acreedor al escarnio colectivo» (Collyer Habitante [Chile 2002]); «Se hizo acreedora de la simpatía y la estima de cuantos la conocían» (Abc [Esp.] 14.1.78).'
