Glossary entry (derived from question below)
German term or phrase:
Denn, so Brand weiter
English translation:
"because", Brand continued, "one the one hand .......°
German term
Denn, so Brand weiter
The text it comes from is about the benefits of exposure to sunlight and the full sentence (and the following sentence) is as follows:
"Denn, so Brand weiter, einerseits benötige der menschliche Organismus Sonnenlicht, um eine ausreichende Versorgung mit Vitamin D sicherzustellen, das, angeregt durch die UV-Strahlung des Sonnenlichts, zu über 90 Prozent über die Haut produziert wird. Andererseits drohe bei einer Überdosierung mit Sonnenlicht Sonnenbrand, der die Haut schädige und zu Hautkrebs führen könne."
So far I have:
"On the one hand, the human body needs to be exposed to sunlight in order to ensure a sufficient supply of vitamin D, the production of which is stimulated by ultraviolet radiation, with 90 percent of it being produced in the skin. However, on the other hand, it is true that overexposure to sunlight causes sunburn, which does damage the skin and can lead to skin cancer."

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.
How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:
An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)
A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).
Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.
When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.
* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Obviously makes perfect sense! I was reading into it too much and confusing myself, as the text is about tanning and burning so I was reading "Brand" as burn/fire which was not making any sense. Silly me. Thank you! |
