Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Aug 19, 2003:
El Croco The Nachbau is being built by the same yard all right.

repeat ship or vessel

I'm not 100% sure about replica, which, as Steffen hints, would mean a (close) copy of an old ship.

My feeling is that, for example, a 19th century ship would qualify as an old ship, but not the QE.

If the two ships were built by the same yard, then I think "repeat ship", or "repeat vessel" might fit here.

There again though, if there are significant changes in the design of the QE2 and the QE, \"repeat\" might not be completely suitable either, but nor would \"copy\" .....

neutral Steffen Walter : How about 'clone', if it's a true copy?

Not a bad idea, I suppose ....

replica

That what I would say based on the sources below (and many more).

\'xxx Nachbau\' would thus be sth. along the lines of \'XXX replica project\'.

Hmmm... dann vielleicht doch \"copy\"?

How about 'clone', then?
agree Terranova : according to encarta.com a replica is a "faithful copy of something" or "an accurate reproduction of an object"; maybe reproduction would fit also, but I think replica is the right word
