Por lo que yo entiendo (echándole un poco de imaginación), se refiere a algo un poco más abstracto, pienso por ejemplo en un mapa con lucecitas que se encienden según el número que se elija, o algo así.

Si los tramos que abarcan los slots miden al menos 2 km, no creo que se pueda hablar de ranuras.

En todo caso, algo más de contexto no estaría mal.
