Use of language: "Hispanics"? 08:22 Nov 5, 2009
When referring to a population group such as "Hispanics", is it not usually the case that the term is followed by a qualifying terms such as "Hispanic people", "Hispanic youths" or - as in this case - "Hispanic students"?
In British English it would be regarded as inappropriate or even disrespectful/derogatory to refer to the group as simply "Hispanics", particularly in written expression. Is this not the case in the United States? |
