greater consideration Explanation: Another angle on it... "In this regard, the tightening of border controls has led to a change in the routes opted for by immigrants planning their journey to Spain; they now involve more risks and greater consideration of the crossing points chosen, based on how likely they are to succeed and the economic costs implied." picking and choosing Explanation: "Picking and choosing" is an idiomatic expression meaning being very selective. Multitran, I think has the right idea, except that immigrants are no longer choosing the most convenient crossing point. They are now willing to go to greater lengths (more money or more personal risk) in order to cross at a crossing point thought to have a greater chance of success. This is what I understand to be meant by escandolar - to spread out, or reducing teh number of crossing points by eliminating those that have least chance of success. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2 hrs (2009-05-15 02:40:41 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Examples: http://www.ecmag.com/index.cfm?fa=article&articleID=7060 http://www.librarywebchic.net/wordpress/2007/05/21/picking-a... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2 hrs (2009-05-15 02:45:25 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- ESCALONAR -- sorry - don't know why I wrote escandolar!!! Wasn't thinking. |
