I'm not concerned with earning more at the moment Jun 25, 2022

I’m happy with my earnings and my client base, but I wouldn’t say no if occasionally some of them decided to send more projects my way…

Same clients, larger and recurring jobs Jun 25, 2022

I’m satisfied with 80% of my clients; for me it’s just as easy to do a large job as a small job. I prefer jobs with 10.000 words or more like screenplays, books, company websites and EU tenders. Recurring jobs are also great. It’s true, however, that small jobs often lead to larger ones.

As I’m now 60 and will retire in the next five to seven years, my goal in 2022 is to double my income since last year. I’ve hired two employees for this purpose. Hoping to make it a reality.

Right mix of clients Jun 25, 2022

Getting the right mix of clients (so that work stays interesting) is my top priority for the moment.
Fair pay is a prerequisite.

For me it's mainly a matter of gaining more direct clients. They are more needy than agencies, but they pay more, and more quickly, and they don't haggle over every last cent. They are more likely to ask questions about the translation, and I'm more likely to get more detailed answers when I have to ask questions, leading to a much better end product simply because I understand their business better. So I get to produce better translations and earn more.

Getting a bit more work from existing clients, with whom I already have a good professional relationship.

Breaking in a new client is sometimes more hassle than it's worth.

(NOTE: Although I have no current plans to do so, it's interesting that putting up one's fees for existing clients is not among the poll's options.)
