Source text - Portuguese Os microrganismos são importantes indicadores da qualidade do solo. Por serem sensíveis às
mudanças, podem refletir precocemente os impactos provocados por diferentes formas de uso
do solo. Diante disso, esse trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o efeito de diferentes sistemas de
cultivo do cafeeiro nos atributos microbiológicos e físico-químicos do solo na região de Planalto
da Conquista/BA. As amostras de solo foram coletadas em junho (estação seca) e dezembro
(estação úmida) do ano de 2018. O procedimento experimental consistiu na coleta de quatro
amostras compostas de solo (cada uma composta por três subamostras) tomadas a uma
profundidade de 0–20 cm de cada área de campo: cultivo de café consorciado com grevílea
(CG); café a pleno sol com espaçamento 2,50 x 0,50 m (CS1); café a pleno sol com
espaçamento 1,70 x 0,70 m (CS2); Pastagem (P) e Mata Nativa (NF), sendo as duas últimas
áreas localizadas adjacentes aos cafezais. Os atributos microbiológicos e físico-químicos
avaliados foram: respiração basal do solo (RBM), carbono orgânico total do solo (COT),
carbono da biomassa microbiana (CBM), quociente metabólico (qCO 2 ), quociente microbiano
(qMic), atividade enzimática (urease, fosfatase ácida, Hidrolise do Diacetato de fluresceína-
FDA) e contagem de unidades formadoras de colônia de bactéria e fungos totais do solo.
Também foram avaliados atributos físicos e químicos (granulometria, textura, pH, P, K + , Ca 2+,
Mg 2+ , Al 3+ e soma de bases). Entre os sistemas de cultivo de café, CG foi o que proporcionou
maiores teores de carbono orgânico total do solo, o que parece ter favorecido o aumento de
carbono da biomassa microbiana, e consequentemente maior percentual do quociente
microbiano, maior atividade das enzimas fosfatase ácida, FDA e Urease. Os menores teores de
carbono orgânico, biomassa microbiana, assim como a menor atividade enzimática, foram
observados nos sistemas CS1 e CS2, e podem estar relacionadas com a maior susceptibilidade
às perdas dos compostos orgânicos nestes sistemas. Os atributos biológicos do solo (CBM,
qmic, qCO2, RBM, atividade de enzimas e populações microbianas totais) permitiram
discriminar as diferentes áreas estudadas, refletindo o efeito do uso do solo sobre as
propriedades biológicas edáficas.
Translation - English Microorganisms are important indicators of soil quality. As they are sensitive to changes, they
can early reflect the impacts caused by different forms of land use. Therefore, this work aimed
to evaluate the effect of different coffee cultivation systems on the microbiological and
physical-chemical attributes of the soil in the region of Planalto da Conquista/BA. Soil samples
were collected in June (dry season) and December (wet season) of the year 2018. The
experimental procedure consisted of collecting four composite soil samples (each composed of
three subsamples) taken at a depth of 0– 20 cm from each field area: coffee cultivation
intercropped with grevillea (CG); coffee in full sun with 2.50 x 0.50 m spacing (CS1); coffee in
full sun with 1.70 x 0.70 m spacing (CS2); Pasture (P) and Mata Nativa (NF), the last two areas
located adjacent to the coffee plantations. The microbiological and physicochemical attributes
evaluated were: basal soil respiration (RBM), soil total organic carbon (TOC), microbial
biomass carbon (CBM), metabolic quotient (qCO 2), microbial quotient (qMic), enzyme
analysis (urease, acid phosphatase, Flurescein Diacetate Hydrolysis -FDA) and counting of total
colony forming units of bacteria and fungi in the soil. Physical and chemical attributes (particle
size, texture, pH, P, K + , Ca 2+ , Mg 2+ , Al 3+ and sum of bases) were also evaluated. Among the
coffee growing systems, GC was the one that provided the highest levels of total organic carbon
in the soil, which seems to have favored the increase of carbon in the microbial biomass, and
consequently the highest percentage of the microbial quotient, greater activity of acid
phosphatase enzymes, FDA and Urease. The lowest levels of organic carbon, microbial
biomass, as well as the lowest enzymatic activity were observed in the CS1 and CS2 systems,
and may be related to the greater susceptibility to losses of organic compounds in these systems.
The biological attributes of the soil (CBM, qmic, qCO2, RBM, enzyme activity and total
microbial populations) made it possible to discriminate the different areas studied, reflecting the
effect of soil use on soil biological properties.

I must've told this story a thousand times, but I kind of learned English by chance. I was in high school, had loads of free time, so I decided to watch a bunch of comedy series with original audio and Portuguese subtitles. I got so used to the sound of the language that I learned without even knowing, then I realized I could understand most of what the characters were saying, not needing the subtitles. In order to practice my speaking skill, I used to record myself on my cellphone, I had no one to practice with, which is kind of lame, so I used to talk on the recordings about my routine and all. After all the talking, I listened to it, and tried to correct it. This is not the whole process, but it's kind of a summary. I started to work as a private teacher, did some proficiency exams, gained some experience.
Growing up as gamer in Brazil, I had no contact with games in Brazilian Portuguese, so it was hard to play at first. But then I'd make an effort and would start to translate most of the in-game text to be able to understand better.
As a translator, most of my experience followed my gaming life, but also subtitling and transcripting. I must mention my knowledge translating abstracts and articles from my hometown universities as well.
It's a work that truly fulfills my heart, I'm always glad I'm able to do it.
