연구자의 윤리적 문제 중 대표적인 것은 연구의 진실성을 확보하는 것입니다. 이와 관련된 가장 일반적인 문제는 부정행위입니다. 연구의 제안, 진행과정, 동료평가 및 연구결과 발표시의 조작, 허위 또는 표절 등의 부정행위는 근절되어야 합니다. 학술지는 잠재적인 데이터 조작, 허위, 표절, 이미지 조작, 비윤리적 연구, 저자권(authorship) 남용 등의 부정행위 가능성이 있는지를 우선 검토합니다. 편집자들은 부정행위를 포착할 경우 내부 규정을 검토하여 확인하고, 관련된 기관과 협의합니다. 의심이 가는 부정행위는 정해진 절차에 따라 처리합니다. 이런 행위들은 적절한 조치가 취해질 수 있도록 가능한 한 신속히 다루어야 합니다. 익명의 제보나 내부자 고발에 의해 제기된 구체적이고 자세한 증거가 있는 부정행위는 즉시 조사해야 합니다.
조작, 허위 및 이미지 조작
연구데이터를 이미지 형태로 수집할 때 이미지를 조작하면 다른 결과가 나올 수 있습니다. 따라서 부적절한 이미지 조작은 학술지들이 충분히 식별할 수 있는 부정행위입니다. 물론 이미지 편집이 정당하게 허용되는 경우도 있습니다. 예를 들어 예술작품의 특성을 확인하기 위해 특정 부위를 확대하는 경우 등입니다. 학술지들은 연구자들에게 이미지의 인위적인 처리에 대한 가이드라인을 제공해야 합니다.
표절
학술지들은 연구자들에게 표절에 대한 정의와 가이드라인을 제공해야 합니다. 원칙적으로 저작권의 도용 또는 부적절한 사용, 다른 연구자의 연구물에 대한 인용 없이 무단 복사하는 것 등을 표절로 봅니다. 편집자들은 투고된 논문의 표절 여부를 어떻게 스크린 하는지, 연구자들이 표절을 방지하기 위해 어떻게 해야 하는지에 “저자들에 대한 지시사항”을 통해 알려 주어야 합니다.
Translation - English Misconduct
One of the main ethical issues for researchers is to ensure the authenticity of the research. The most common problem related to this is misconduct. Any manipulation, falsehood or plagiarism in the process of research proposal, research development, peer group review and publication should be eradicated. Academic papers are firstly reviewed for any potential misconduct such as data manipulation, falsehood, plagiarism, image manipulation, unethical research or misappropriation of authorship. If editors investigate any misconduct, they review the internal regulations and consult with the relevant authority. Any suspicious behaviour is dealt with using the pre-determined procedure. This should be handled as promptly as possible in order to take appropriate action. Any misconduct reported with specific and accurate evidence from an anonymous or internal accuser should be investigated immediately.
Manipulation, Falsehood and Image manipulation
Manipulating images could cause a different output if research data is gathered from images. Academic paper reviews therefore are able to identify inappropriate image manipulation. Of course there are some cases in which image editing is allowed. A certain part of an image can be enlarged, for example, to verify a specific feature in an artwork. Academic papers should include an explanation regarding any modification of images.
Plagiarism
Academic papers should provide a definition and a guideline of plagiarism for researchers. In principal, plagiarism can be any misuse or inappropriate use of copyright, or illegal copying of other researchers’ research without a reference. Providing “Instruction to authors”, the editors should give guidance on how they screen any plagiarism in the submitted papers and on what researchers should do to avoid plagiarism.
