Czech to English: Skype now offers end-to-end encryption of text and voice communication General field: Tech/Engineering Detailed field: Computers: Software
Source text - Czech Po více než půlročním testování přichází komunikační aplikace Skype s end-to-end šifrováním textové i hlasové komunikace.
Pokud příjemce přijme pozvánku, budou zprávy a hovory zabezpečeny před případným odposlechem.
Translation - English After more than a half year long testing, Skype, communication application, launches end-to-end encryption of both text and voice communication, Engadget informs.
Android, iOS, and Desktop (Windows, Mac, and Linux) users can now use encryption of a secured Signal Protocol from Open Whisper Systems to secure their communication.
If the recipient accepts an invitation, their calls and texts will be secured from potential eavesdropping. On top of that, the text content of the messages will not be shown in notifications and will be hidden in the chat list.
End-to-end encryption should be a suitable choice for everyone who either needs to discuss any sensitive matter or quickly share information which should not be seen or heard by anyone who is not authorized.
This new function, however, has one major setback - you can only lead a maximum of one private conversation on one device at the same time. The received and sent message will be accessible only on the said device.
Unlike other communicators, such as WhatsApp or Telegram, end-to-end encryption is not set as default. Turning on the function is only up to the users, which can choose a "New private conversation" option either from the recipient's profile or from the chat settings.
