Source text - English It would all be so simple if we could just go the way of the hippos. You know, drop the extra syllables, attach an “s” and there’s your plural. But no, English has its peculiarities when it comes to making single nouns plural, or using plural nouns in the singular. Sometimes it’s simply a matter of how a word is spelled, although much can also depend on whether its Latin or Greek roots are showing. Translation - French Il serait si simple si tous les noms adoptaient le même comportement au moment de prendre la marque du pluriel. On ajouterait un « s » à la fin du mot, peu importe son genre, et le tour serait joué. Mais non! Le français est capricieux… Parfois, il s’agit simplement d’une graphie différente, bien que les racines grecques et latines aient une influence non négligeable sur les changements à apporter au moment de faire l’accord.
