Podobnie jak i ja - a "degrees of freedom" zamieniłem na "freedom degrees" tylko ze względów stylistycznych, aby uniknąć niezręcznego zawsze powtarzania "of".

"Freedom degrees" jest w tym kontekście do przyjęcia - wyrażenie "degrees of freedom" to nie jest nazwa własna, jak United States of America, czy Federal Bureau of Investigation, żeby nie można dostosować jej gramatycznie do kontekstu. Poza tym proszę przeczytać całą moją odpowiedź.

swobody stopień Są takie zbitki wyrazów, których nie mierzy się ilością wystąpień, tylko albo są poprawne, albo nie.
Ja nie muszę sprawdzać w guglach co to są stopnie swobody i jak one są po angielsku, bo jest to dla mnie fizyczne przedszkole, z racji zawodu.
Tak jak powiemy United States of America, a nie "United America States", Federal Bureau of Investigation, a nie "Federal Investigation Bureau", tak stopnie swobody to są degrees of freedom i tylko tak, czy układu, czy czegokolwiek innego.
Nie będę patrzeć na żadne odnośniki, bo wiem że freedom degrees jest w tym kontekście całkowicie niepoprawne.

In mechanics, degrees of freedom (DOF) are the set of independent displacements and/or rotations that specify completely the displaced or deformed position and orientation of the body or system. This is a fundamental concept relating to systems of moving bodies in mechanical engineering, aeronautical engineering, robotics, structural engineering, etc.

Stopień swobody - w fizyce minimalna liczba niezależnych zmiennych opisujących jednoznacznie stan (modelu) układu fizycznego, w termodynamice liczba niezależnych zmiennych stanu, które można zmieniać nie powodując zmiany stanu (rodzaju i liczby faz).

Normalnie stopień swobody to "degree of freedom", ale przy takim tłumaczeniu byłyby dwa "of" ("degree of freedom of a system"), więc lepiej dać jak wyżej (połączenie "freedom degree" też jest bardzo częste).

Proszę spojrzeć na odnośniki - to, że "degree of freedom" jest częstsze, nie znaczy, że "freedom degree" jest niepoprawne.

degree of freedom of the system

I guess there's not much to explain. The term "freedom degree" is obviously understandable, however one rearly uses it, it sounds quite unusual, and i don't remember i have ever seen it in any university script. Refering to the statistical support:
"freedom degree of the system" - 11,000 results from Mr. Google, vast part of them comes from non-English speaking countries.
"degree of freedom of the system" - 743,000 results.

The term is often abbreviated to DOF. Better keep it like that, then it makes sense when you use it interchangeably.

If you really want to make it shorter and get rid of too many "ofs", I would eventually suggest "system degree of freedom". However, it's also better for spoken language.
Example sentence:

If only r of the q constraints are independent, the degree of freedom of the system is f = 6p - r.
