Come già accennato gli ascendenti di queste forme architettoniche rimandano a prototipi comuni dell’Oriente ellenistico; più precisamente si può fare riferimento alla variegata serie dei grandi santuari greci a stoà nei quali una o più celle accostate in sequenza paratattica si disponevano all’interno di un portico, talora saldandovisi e affacciandosi su un grande cortile quadrangolare. Dei tanti casi databili tra la fine del IV e il III secolo a.C. possiamo ricordare i templi di Zeus a Dodona, Megalopolis e Priene,*** il santuario pergameno*** di Mamurt Kale, e, per certi versi, i sacelli inseriti nei portici del mercato nord di Mileto o dell’Asklepieion di Messene.
