Perhaps Neil Postman said it best in his forward to“Amusing Ourselves to Death”:

“What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was there
would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who would want to read one.
Orwell feared those who would deprive us of information. Huxley feared those who would
give us so much that we would be reduced to passivity and egoism.”

Postman wrote this in 1985. Twenty years later it rings true with an alarming echo that has not
diminished with time; rather, it continues growing like a feedback loop that has crossed its
containment threshold.
