There are two professional bodies to which precognition agents may belong. These are the Association of British Investigators and the Institute of Professional Investigators.
Interestingly, the people who do precognition work for Crown Office and the Procurator Fiscal Service as employees are also referred to as 'precognition officers'.
Precognition agents who are directly employed by solicitors are not of course 'agents' in the legal sense. They are employees. This difference in employment status is often reflected in terminology. These people are frequently referred to as 'precognition officers' rather than 'precognition agents'.
