In a text about fashion in France - these 'carrés de coton' became very popular after being showcased by stars such as Brigitte Bardot - can't just be cotton squares can it? Thanks!

Explanation:
also could say "head scarf," but that might be confused with scarves worn by Muslim women. Sometimes I say "handkerchief," but kerchief or bandanna would be best in this scenario, I think.

Correction: to put the square brackets around scarves and to add that dresses and skirts as two of the ways that these hand printed blocks of cotton were used as clothing in the 60s and 70s.

Stunning hand printed wrap skirt. I believe this beauty is from the 1960s and was made in Pakistan. 100% hand printed cotton. The motif is floral sort of a cross between a poppy and a lilly. The flower is done in shades of red and ivory against a navy blue background.
