I really need help with the first sentence below. I have given additional context in case it helps. I started with "the repeated outplaying of two . . . ," or "the repeated interplay between the long . . ." -- but between what? I need some ideas!

Siguiendo los enfoques modernos sobre la organización industrial , el número óptimo de participantes en un mercado oligopólico resulta de **un juego repetido que tiene dos partes: una etapa de largo plazo y una de corto plazo.**La etapa de largo plazo es la que define el número óptimo de participantes en el mercado y, a partir de ella, los recursos materiales y la tecnología necesarios. Pero el largo plazo requiere la definición previa, en cada etapa, de las ganancias o utilidades de la industria.
