برنج را با 6 پیمانه آب داخل قابلمه بریزید و روی حرارت بگذارید تا کاملا بپزد سپس سبزی، حبوبات، گل نسترن و مغز گردو را به برنج اضافه کنید. پس از لعاب انداختن، حرارت را کم کنید و اجازه دهید آش جا بیفتد
This is an expression which is very common in Persian cooking, especially when it comes to stews and Aashes and soups, etc. (e.g. Ghormeh Sabzi, Gheymeh bademjan...)
It roughly refers to the process of letting the mixture slow-cook in water until the intrinsic tastes and flavors of different ingredients comes out and mixes together, and the whole stew has a thick gravy-like feel to it.

Also, I would very much appreciate it if someone would provide a decent equivalent for "جا افتادن" as well.

Asker: Yeah, "thicken" was the equivalent I could come up with as well. "Glaze," is the first thing one would think of. But it's a completely different concept, totally unrelated to what is referred here. Thanks for the answer. Appreciate it.
