"You are advised" is incorrect. 17:36 Feb 27, 2014
With respect to my colleagues here, please note that "به عرض می رساند" in Farsi is always a form of addressing used by a person of lower rank to someone(or an office) of higher rank. Whereas, "You are advised" is used by a higher rank addressing a person(s) of lower rank. For example your manager would use it to address his employee but employee uses به عرض می رساند which translates into: I submit to you or for your attention. Yes ultimately one party is informing the other, but I think even the asker of this question could have come up with a translation such as "you are advised" or "you are informed" but none of these would be translation of به عرض می رساند. I think he wanted to know what would be the equivalent in English which, could save the spirit of the phrase. Clearly the spirit here is someone who is submitting some information to someone or an entity of higher stature. NOT the other way around. Please consider the reverse translation of "You are advised" which is "به شما توصیه میشود" is this equal to [به عرض می رساند] or [به عرضتان برسانم]??? بفرما٬ بنیشین٬ بتمرگ ٬همه یه معنی دارد. Would you translate all of them as "sit down? I only wish to learn more from everyone. Thx |
