This is about a scene, where person A asks person B to go out for a drink. Person B says he can't, because he's meeting a girl that night and he has to stay sober because of this. Then person A says "it's the only way you'll get some".

What does it mean in that context? It would be already a huge help, if you could explain it in English.

Ob Person A nun meint, dass Person B dafür nüchtern oder betrunken sein muss, ergibt sich dann hoffentlich aus dem Kontext. Ich denke mal, er meint es ironisch, um seinen Freund doch zum Trinken zu bewegen.

agree  Claus Sprick: ja; für das Date selbst empfiehlt Ogden Nash allerdings (Reflections on Ice-Breaking): Candy is Dandy, but liquor is quicker. Etwa: "Mit Nasch- / werk geht's rasch, / mit Port- / wein sofort". Oder auf Kölsch: Kamelle sind jau, schneller Schabau.
