I would like to know the best translation of this phrase from Spanish into American English.

It's a translation of a document about journalism. Do you think is okay to translate as: amongst many other things?

Here is the full paragraph:

porque ser periodista implica muchas ramas en una sola carrera, implica ser político, ser científico, ser abogado, entre muchas otras, pero la de ser educador es la que abarcaría todas las demás. Por eso es mi gran deseo de ensenar de demostrar que puedo dar lo mejor de mí en el área de la enseñanza. Elegí la carrera de español porque sobre entiendo la necesidad de que nuestros jóvenes aprendan una segunda lengua para poder competir en este mundo tan globalizado.
