French term or phrase: projections de demain
Hi

This is a definition of design as a combination of "les compétences d'hier" and "les projections de demain."

I have a feel for what is meant by "projections" but can't find a single word that fits.

As always, thanks!

the things we will use tomorrow

Explanation:
The notion seems clear enough to me from your entry. They are trying to say that traditional creative skills and tools are used to meet the requirements of an evolving society/world. As in "design is the art of employing old-fashioned know-how to produce the things we will use tomorrow" - well that would be my offering! :)
