  -> I did say that my suggestion as not "literal". However the idea is that we are referring to people with less money/luck/fortune/means. Perhaps I shoudl have specified that my suggestion is a "loose translation" none the less approiate.

I would keep it as simple as this. The sentence itself is very simply, so I would keep the same tone.

Yo diría algo como: " Hoy es un buen día para que todas las buenas personas se pongan a trabajar juntas por los (más) desfavorecidos."

Tu versión es correcta excepto en "se unan a hacer el bien" que debería ser "se unan para hacer el bien", pero no me convence la repetición "hombres de bien" - "hacer el bien", que, en cambio en inglés sí funciona.
Por otra parte, a no ser que el contexto lo exija (por ejemplo un contexto bíblico) prefiero "personas" a "hombres".
