Liz it's fine to say 24th course, I do not know the context but to say 24th course is all right.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Note to Celia: I cannot contribute in the Discussion Box. Yes, I would like to know what "curso" is here....it does not seem clear if I say "24th course..."

Asker: It just seems strange that the name of the course has not been specified. It could be anything couldn't it?

Do not translate OR: [XXIV Course on Digestive Diseases...] (in square brackets)

Explanation:
Since, it's a book title, you're not supposed to translate it. At most, leave the title in Spanish and provide the translation in square brackets. I think "School" is redundant if you already have "Course."

What you describe is not what is done internationally - and yes, there are international standards for this (we've discussed standards before). Your client isn't in the loop.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Hi Muriel....I am sure you are right about the format...however I did contact the client and they say it is ok to transalate titles etc but put these in inverted commas, and leave the original Spanish title out:-) Useful information though. Thank you!
