This is is equivalent to year 12 in some countries education system. In Iran, primary school, consists of years 1 to 5, middle school is from years 6 to 8, high school in the old education system is from years 9 to 12 and in the new education system is from years 9 to 11 and then year 12 is called "پیش دانشگاهی".

Pre University Course, popularly known as PUC is an intermediate course of duration two years conducted by state education boards in India.A person desiring admission to any Indian university must pass this course. The course can be considered a bridge course to prepare students for university education. The admission to this course is based on marks obtained in SSLC or standard 10. Indian education system follows 10+2+3( 4 or 5) pattern, ie; number of years required for one to obtain a Bachelor's Degree. This pre-university course ( PUC ) is also known as PDC ( Pre Degree Course ), + 2 or Intermediate course. The state of Karnataka conducts PUC board examinations in PUC II for university admissions.

Students desiring to study professional courses in Karnataka must pass this exam in science stream and also qualify in Common Entrance Test conducted by CET cell of government of Karnataka. This is required to get admission ( merit seats ) in colleges offering professional courses like medicine,engineering,dentistry,nursing and pharmacy .

Recently rhe Karnatka PUC Board decided to make the First year PUC exams public in an attempt to filter out bad students and improve overall score.

The colleges offering pre university course are known as PU College or Junior college in India.

Explanation:
Please note, this is only to provide different versions of this term in other countries, mainly in Europe.

In European International Schools which are run and administered by University of Cambridge, the term IB (International Baccalaureate) is used to refer to the last year of high-school. Although this term is actually used as the Certificate of this year but the phrases like, "He is an IB student." or "He is studying in IB year." is common among the students. Even though this year is quit different than our پیش دانشگاهی but it is basically the year before entering university.
