light channel

Explanation:
I have never met this in a nuclear-related context but I have just found this expression for "canon à lumière" on a bilingual Canadian site (see below). It would seem to fit here as well.

agree  Radu DANAILA: It's not specific to nuclear technology, but to lighting in general.

light plug

Explanation:
Lowest confidence for the moment, this being based simply on the AFNOR/Framatome entry for :
"canon" - "plug, cap", in particular, but also "canon d'essai" - "test point, test jack, test socket".

So much for that idea! It would indeed appear to be an inspection light - and that's probably what I would call it - assuming, that is, that your "canon" and their "canon" are one and the same thing.

I note the Cyberia contrivance is specifically for "piscine BR".

"Light gun" is a different notion, related to computers and video games (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light_gun). A light gun serves as a pointing device for computers and/or a control device for arcade and video games.

In Claire's case, a "light gun" serves to lighten the pool, therefore Sue's translation seems to be more appropriate.
