light channel Explanation: I have never met this in a nuclear-related context but I have just found this expression for "canon à lumière" on a bilingual Canadian site (see below). It would seem to fit here as well. Reference: http://www.schreder.ca/en/products/item.aspx?c=3&p=24 |

(powerful/long-range) light projector Explanation: For a lack of a better term, this describes what it is Ref1 Canons à lumière : projecteurs fixes ou mouvants de longue portée, maintenant soumis à autorisation préalable du Préfet, voir la loi du 2 février 1995, article 53. Ref2: The standard light projector used by the Navy and Marine Corps is the ML-121 ceiling light projector, shown in figure 2-43. light plug Explanation: Lowest confidence for the moment, this being based simply on the AFNOR/Framatome entry for : "canon" - "plug, cap", in particular, but also "canon d'essai" - "test point, test jack, test socket". -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 3 hrs (2009-01-12 17:38:57 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- So much for that idea! It would indeed appear to be an inspection light - and that's probably what I would call it - assuming, that is, that your "canon" and their "canon" are one and the same thing. |

Reference: References for "light channel" Reference information: "US Patent 5815254 - Transmittance and reflectance measuring spectrophotometer having dual use light channels" http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/5815254.html "Study on Retrofitting Adhered Steel Panel with Light Channel Section" http://sciencelinks.jp/j-east/article/200118/000020011801A07... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2009-01-12 15:28:25 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- "Light gun" is a different notion, related to computers and video games (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light_gun). A light gun serves as a pointing device for computers and/or a control device for arcade and video games. In Claire's case, a "light gun" serves to lighten the pool, therefore Sue's translation seems to be more appropriate. |
