Explanation:
Interesting question! In my experience as a sworn interpreter, I have never seen this happen. In long trials two interpreters might relieve each other, and be on hand for checking (see the link below), but not another person solely with the role of checking. Which country is involved here ?

After a bit more research, it seems that this takes place commonly in California, maybe in the Far East, but in Europe I can't find anything. I would definitely go for the explanation.
