Diese Problematik würde umgangen, wenn die auf Gelenkimplantaten erforderlichen hohen Rauheiten durch Strahlen mit Feststoffen erzielt werden könnten, die entweder biologisch funktionell, oder schadlos resorbierbar, oder zumindest mit einer Nachbehandlung wegwaschbar sind. Alle drei Eigenschaften treffen auf die an Zahnimplantaten bereits eingesetzten Calciumphosphate wie Hydroxyapatit HA zu.
Erste Versuche mit im Labormassstab gepressten, gesinterten und gebrochenen Ca-Phosphaten verschiedener Herkunft zeigten, dass das gesteckte Ziel erreichbar ist. In einer an der ETH Zürich laufenden Diplomarbeit werden Titanoberflächen untersucht (Topografie, Rückstände, zellbiologische Wirkungen), die mit industriell gefertigten HA-Strahlkörnern aufgeraut worden sind.
