Italian term or phrase: assistente ospedaliero
I am reviewing a translation and this term has been translated as "hospital auxiliary" in relation to a doctor who has completed his junior housemanship.

In the UK, hospital auxiliry is usually used to denote a much less qualified member of the hispital staff.

Can anyone suggest a translation for the above medical position?

Attending physician
Explanation:
This is the equivalent in English. There are many links, but maybe this definition will help.

"An attending physician is a physician that has completed residency and practices medicine in a clinic or hospital, often focusing on the specialty learned during residency. An attending physician can also supervise residents and medical students.

Legally, attending physicians have final responsibility for patient care, even when many of the minute-to-minute decisions are being made by subordinates (nurse practitioners, physician assistants, resident physicians, and medical students)."

Many thanks. A difficult one to get agreement on, especially considering the various differences between the IT, UK and US systems.

disagree  Carlos Umaña: A physician´s assistant is another health professional that is not a medical doctor, and that requires supervision from one. This profession exists only in a few countries (US, Canada, Netherlands, England) and Italy is not one of them.
