English term or phrase: old boot
Buenas tardes:

—Necesitas irte a dormir pronto, cielo. Obviamente estás demasiado cansado.
—No estoy cansado.
—Oh, Inigo, por favor, no me agotes replicándome.
—No te estoy replicando.
There was a pause, then Mama said something that raised a lump in my throat. 'Funny'. She laughed softly. ***'I rather miss the old boot now.'***

testarudo

Explanation:
Quizás tenga algo q ver con la expresión "as tough as old boots"

(as) tough as old boots
very strong, and not easily weakened:
He might be in his eighties but he's tough as old boots, that man.
