English term or phrase: concept familiar to Jews
Sentence: Similarly, “Son of God” was a concept familiar to both Jews and Gentiles, expressing Jesus’ special relationship with the Divine.

Here I do not understand how Jews could accept that Jesus had a special relationship with God. As far as I know, they do not believe in that he is the son of God. Could you please offer your explanation on how I could translate this sentence in a way that will not contradict Jewish peoples' attitudes toward Jesus?

General context: In our always imperfect, always revisable attempts to communicate our lived faith to our contemporaries, we borrow images and concepts available in our contemporary culture. Members of the Christian community did so from the very beginning. The title “Christ” comes from the Greek translation of the Hebrew word denoting Messiah, or “anointed one.” Use of this second name for Jesus, then, expresses the belief that God has uniquely appointed him, and that he embodies Israel’s hope for the coming of a just reign. Similarly, “Son of God” was a concept familiar to both Jews and Gentiles, expressing Jesus’ special relationship with the Divine.

Thank you! I agree that "Son of God" in this context should be written without capitalizing the letter "s" in "son of God".

как иудеи, так и язычники, имели представление о Божьем Сыне

Explanation:
"Подобным образом, как иудеи, так и язычники, имели представление о Божьем Сыне. То, что Иисус был Божьим Сыном, указывает на Его уникальные взаимоотношения с Богом."

It is generally known, of course, that Jewish religion does not acknowledge Jesus as the Son of God. English text sounds a little awkward, giving the impression that it does. I think in translation it is necessary to separate the idea that the concept of the "Son of God” was known to Jews and the idea that this concept (in Christian understanding) expresses Jesus’ special relationship with God (namely, that He Himself was God). In other words, the early Christians took the idea familiar to the Jews and applied it to Jesus, which was scandalous to Jews who did not accept Jesus as the Messiah.
