La phrase est un peu alambiquée mais je ne vois pas d'autre moyen pour traduire l'idée exprimée ici, il me semble.

regarder les dents d'un cheval permet de déterminer son âge et son état de santé et donc de lui donner une "valeur" c'est un peu ancien comme concept mais bon passons d'où l'expression "don't look a gift horse in the month" qui signifie qu'il ne faut pas critiquer quelque chose que l'on vous offre (gratuitement).
maintenant cela reste à adapter à votre contexte je tenais juste à vous donner ces explications puisque je connais bien le monde des chevaux mais beaucoup moins celui de la médecine !

After all, I prefer "bouche", since the text is talking about the mouth rather then the teeth. And even though the expression with "dents" is more common, it's not wrong to say "à cheval donné on ne regarde pas la bouche".

L'auteur fait un usage très particulier de l'expression "look a gift horse in the mouth" puisqu'elle ne s'emploie généralement qu'à la forme négative (don't look a gift horse...) et n'est pas à prendre au pied de la lettre (il ne s'agit pas vraiment d'un cheval, mais de tout cadeau offert). L'auteur emploie donc une expression figurée connue qui veut dire qu'il ne faut pas critiquer les cadeaux reçus pour illustrer sa thèse qui est que la santé des dents en dit long sur la santé d'un individu. Pour ne pas tomber dans la répétition du mot dents (on ne regarde pas des dents d'un cheval offert) vous pourriez employer une variante comme "quiconque a examiné la denture d'un cheval offert"
