I am very confused to whom to award points. We, a translator's community, should probably suggest ProZ to build a grading scale, then no one would be left without recognition one way or another. Contract killer, hit man, assassin and hired gun - are the top choices ( Blithe, A. Taranichev, 2rush, Alexander, thank you)! However, I will award points to Contract killer , which serves purpose the most simplest way, although, this is not a real "slang slang" I was looking for at that time, plus it was provided so fast and I got it right on time to my paper. Plus, I appreciate Deborah's input and I agree with her on assassin, I think they could be not only terrorists in a today's meaning but anyone who is killing a highly ranked official or doing serial planned killing(s) of high complexity..

plugger, cleaner

Explanation:
Если речь идет о тех, кто убирает свидетелей или всяких неугодных кому-нибудь лиц, то «cleaner» вполне подходит. (В каком-то фильме было. :))
