Source text - English The Quiet Storm format has proven especially resilient over the past two decades, however, pulling from new R&B and soul releases to keep playlists current. (This is not always the case— often, programs take the "oldies" route, stopping at a particular historical point, entombing "legacy acts" and ignoring innovation.) But if you listen to a good Quiet Storm playlist today— like WHUR's "Original Quiet Storm", every night from 7:30 to midnight— you'll hear Babyface, Anthony Hamilton, Guy, Maxwell, Toni Braxton, Raphael Saadiq, Jill Scott, Raheem DeVaughn, and Erykah Badu amidst the 70s and 80s classics. The argument could be made that Quiet Storm soul is enjoying a bit of a renaissance, actually: Our own President is prone to lapsing into Al Green during speeches and slow-jamming the news, after all.
Though radio as a medium has gone through significant changes over the past few decades, in its over-the-air form, it's still our most intimate entertainment medium. We still call it "mass media," but that's a misnomer. We usually engage with it alone, or with a handful of others, privately. For millions, radio transmission and reception brings with it a sense of closeness— both to the sound of disembodied broadcast voices and through an imagined kinship with fellow faraway listeners. But for just as many, radio has a slightly different effect. It's an appliance sitting on the kitchen counter, providing ambient sound for doing the dishes, or for setting a romantic mood. Crooning developed as an aesthetic reaction to the affordances of the electrical microphone, the "loudness wars" arose as a result of digital mastering techniques, and Quiet Storm came about because of crystal-clear FM radio signals and the rise of the home hi-fi. In their pure form, radio signals themselves are a quiet storm of the sort that Smokey himself tapped into: "A power source of tender force/ Generate and radiate, and turn me on, turn me on."

В чистом виде сами радиосигналы – это и есть та самая «тихая буря», которую сам Смоки обозначил как «источник энергии нежной силы / Генерируй и излучай, и включай меня, заводи меня».

Source text - English On remand, the district court ruled that KBR waived the attorney-client privilege with respect to certain documents because (1) KBR’s vice president reviewed the challenged documents in preparation for his deposition, and (2) KBR referenced the outcome of its internal investigation (that no wrongdoing had been reported to the government) in a footnote of a motion for summary judgment. On August 11, 2015, the D.C. Circuit again overruled the district court. Regarding the documents reviewed before the deposition, the D.C. Circuit held that the district court’s order was inappropriate because it would encourage plaintiffs to notice depositions to force disclosure of otherwise privileged information. As to the mention of the investigative findings in KBR’s summary judgment brief, the D.C. Circuit noted that the reference was merely a recitation of facts, as opposed to an argument containing any content of the privileged documents. Thus, KBR did not waive the privilege by these very typical uses of its investigative work product.
Translation - Russian На предварительном слушании федеральный районный суд определил, что компания «КБР» отказалась от адвокатской тайны в отношении некоторых документов, поскольку: (1), вице-президент «КБР» рассмотрел оспариваемые документы в рамках подготовки к даче показаний, и (2) Компания «КБР» сослалась на результаты своего внутреннего расследования (ни о каких нарушениях не было сообщено правительству) в примечании к ходатайству о судебном решении, вынесенном в порядке суммарного судопроизводства. 11 августа 2015 года Апелляционный суд округа Колумбия снова отклонил решение федерального районного суда. Что касается документов, рассмотренных до дачи показаний, суд округа Колумбия постановил, что определение федерального районного суда неуместно, потому как это побудит истцов обнародовать показания, что заставит раскрыть конфиденциальную до этого момента информацию. Что касается упоминания о результатах расследования в судебном решении по «КБР», вынесенном в порядке суммарного судопроизводства, Апелляционный суд округа Колумбия отметил, что данное упоминание всего лишь перечисление фактов, в отличие от изложенных доводов, содержащихся в любом из конфиденциальных документов.
