Letter of Appointment (Draft)

We are pleased to offer you the position as a non-executive director to the Board of Directors (the “Board") of Nautilia Yachting as Nautilia (the “Company”).

This letter sets out the terms of your appointment. It is agreed between us that this is a contract for services and is not a contract of employment.

By accepting this appointment, you confirm that you are not subject to any restrictions which prevent you from holding office as a director.

1. Appointment
1.1 Subject to the remaining provisions of this letter, your appointment shall be for an initial term of three years commencing on 1st June 2019 unless terminated earlier by either party giving to the other one month’s prior written notice. Non-executive directors are typically expected to serve two three-year terms, although the Board may invite you to serve for an additional period.
1.2 Your appointment is subject to the articles of association of the Company, as amended from time to time (”Articles"). Nothing in this letter shall be taken to exclude or vary the terms of the Articles as they apply to you as a director of the Company. Continuation of your appointment is contingent on your continued satisfactory performance.
1.3 Notwithstanding paragraph 1.1 and paragraph 1.2, the Company may terminate your appointment with immediate effect if you have:
(a) committed any serious or repeated breach or non-observance of your obligations to the Company (which include an obligation not to breach your statutory, fiduciary or common-law duties); or
(b) been guilty of any fraud or dishonesty or acted in any manner which, in the reasonable opinion of the Company, brings or is likely to bring you or the Company into disrepute or is materially adverse to the interests of the Company; or
(c) been declared bankrupt or have made an arrangement with or for the benefit of your creditors; or
(d) been disqualified from acting as a director.
1.4 On termination of the appointment, you shall only be entitled to accrued fees as at the date of termination together with reimbursement of any expenses properly incurred prior to that date.

2. Time commitment
2.1 You will attend a minimum of 4 Board Meetings and take part in circa 20 further meetings and conference calls (or equivalent) on work for the Company. In addition, you will be required to consider all relevant papers prior to each meeting and you may be required to devote additional time to the Company when it is undergoing a period of particularly increased activity.
2.2 By accepting this appointment, you confirm that you are able to allocate sufficient time to the Company to discharge your responsibilities effectively.

3. Role and duties
3.1 As a non-executive director you shall have the same general legal responsibilities to the Company as any other director. The Board as a whole is collectively responsible for the success of the Company. The Board's role is to:
(a) provide entrepreneurial leadership of the Company within a framework of prudent and effective controls which enable risk to be assessed and managed;
(b) set the Company’s strategic aims, ensure that the necessary financial and human resources are in place for the Company to meet its objectives, and review management performance; and
(c) develop and promote its collective vision of the Company’s purpose, culture, values and the behaviours it wishes to promote in conducting business and ensure that its obligations to its shareholders and others are understood and met.
3.2 In your role as a non-executive director, you shall also be required to:
(a) make sufficient time available to discharge your responsibilities effectively;
(b) devote time to developing and refreshing your knowledge and skills;
(c) uphold high standards of integrity and probity and support the executive directors in instilling the appropriate culture, values and behaviours in the boardroom and beyond;
(d) constructively challenge and contribute to the development of strategy;
(e) take into account the views of shareholders and other stakeholders where appropriate;
(f) scrutinise the performance of management in meeting agreed goals and objectives and monitor the reporting of performance;
(g) satisfy yourself that financial information is accurate and that financial controls and systems of risk management are robust and defensible;
(h) abide by your statutory, fiduciary or common-law duties as a director of the Company;
(i) diligently perform your duties and use your best endeavours to promote, protect, develop and extend the business of the Company particularly internationally;
3.3 You shall be entitled to request all relevant information about the Company's affairs as is reasonably necessary in order to enable you to discharge your duties.

4. Fees
4.1 You shall invoice the Company for your services at the rate of Euro 2,000 per month. You shall be paid in arrears on or about the seventh day of the month following the receipt of the invoice.
4.2 The Company shall reimburse you for all reasonable and properly documented expenses that you incur in performing the duties of your office, including all flights to and from Greece.
4.3 The Business is considering an equity raise in the first half of calendar year 2020. If this raise is successful you will be granted options of between 1.5% and 3% of the share capital of Nautilia.

5. Outside interests
5.1 It is accepted and acknowledged that you have business interests other than those of the Company and have declared any conflicts that are apparent at present. If you become aware of any potential conflicts of interest, these should be disclosed to the Chairman and company secretary as soon as you become aware of them.

6. Confidentiality
6.1 All information acquired during your appointment is confidential to the Company and should not be disclosed to third parties or used for any reason other than in the interests of the Company, either during your appointment or following termination (by whatever means), without prior clearance from the Managing Director.
6.2 Your attention is also drawn to the requirements under both legislation and regulation as to the disclosure of inside information. Consequently you should avoid making any statements that might risk a breach of these requirements without prior clearance from the Managing Director.

7. Insurance
7.1 The Company has directors’ and officers’ liability insurance and it intends to maintain such cover for the full term of your appointment. A copy of the policy document is available from the Managing Director.

8. Data protection
8.1 By signing this letter you consent to the Company holding and processing information about you for legal, personnel, administrative and management purposes and in particular to the processing of any sensitive personal data) relating to you including, as appropriate:
(a) information about your physical or mental health or condition in order to monitor sick leave and take decisions as to your fitness for work; or
(b) your racial or ethnic origin or religious or similar beliefs in order to monitor compliance with equal opportunities legislation; or
(c) information relating to any criminal proceedings in which you have been involved for insurance purposes and in order to comply with legal requirements and obligations to third parties.
8.2 You consent to the Company making such information available to any of its group companies, those who provide products or services to the Company (such as advisers and payroll administrators), regulatory authorities, potential or future employers, governmental or quasi-governmental organisations and potential purchasers of the Company or the business in which you work.
8.3 You also consent to the transfer of such information to the Company's business contacts outside the European Economic Area in order to further its business interests.

9. Governing law and jurisdiction
9.1 This agreement and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with it or its subject matter or formation (including non-contractual disputes or claims) shall be governed by and construed in accordance with Greek law.

10. Complete Agreement and Variation
16.1 This agreement and any document referred to in it constitutes the whole agreement between the parties and supersedes all previous discussions, correspondence, negotiations, arrangements, understandings and agreements between them.
16.2 Each party acknowledges that in entering into this agreement it has not relied on and shall have no remedy in respect of any pre-contractual statement.
16.3 No variation or agreed termination of this agreement shall be effective unless it is in writing and signed by the parties.

γ) έχετε κηρυχθεί σε πτώχευση ή έχετε προβεί σε διακανονισμό με ή προς όφελος των πιστωτών σας, ή
(δ) έχετε αποκλειστεί από την ιδιότητα του διευθυντή.
1.4 Κατά τη λήξη του διορισμού, δικαιούστε μόνο δεδουλευμένες αμοιβές κατά την ημερομηνία λήξης μαζί με την επιστροφή των δαπανών που έχουν κατάλληλα πραγματοποιηθεί πριν από την ημερομηνία αυτή.

2. Χρόνος δέσμευσης
2.1 Θα συμμετάσχετε σε τουλάχιστον 4 Συνεδριάσεις του Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου και θα συμμετάσχετε σε περίπου 20 επιπλέον συναντήσεις και τηλεδιασκέψεις (ή ισοδύναμες) στις εργασίες της Εταιρείας. Επιπλέον, θα χρειαστεί να εξετάσετε όλα τα σχετικά έγγραφα πριν από κάθε συνεδρίαση και ίσως χρειαστεί να αφιερώσετε επιπλέον χρόνο στην Εταιρεία όταν υποβάλλονται σε περίοδο ιδιαίτερα αυξημένης δραστηριότητας.
2.2 Με την αποδοχή αυτού του διορισμού, επιβεβαιώνετε ότι είστε σε θέση να διαθέσετε επαρκή χρόνο στην Εταιρεία για την αποτελεσματική εκπλήρωση των καθηκόντων σας.

3. Ρόλος και καθήκοντα
3.1 Ως μη εκτελεστικός Διευθυντής θα έχετε τις ίδιες νομικές ευθύνες με την Εταιρεία όπως με κάθε άλλο Διευθυντή. Το Διοικητικό Συμβούλιο ως σύνολο είναι συλλογικά υπεύθυνο για την επιτυχία της Εταιρείας. Ο ρόλος του συμβουλίου είναι:
(α) να προσφέρουν επιχειρηματική ηγεσία στην Εταιρεία μέσα σε ένα πλαίσιο συνετών και αποτελεσματικών ελέγχων που επιτρέπουν την αξιολόγηση και τη διαχείριση του κινδύνου,
(β) καθορίζει τους στρατηγικούς στόχους της Εταιρείας, διασφαλίζει ότι υπάρχουν οι απαραίτητοι οικονομικοί και ανθρώπινοι πόροι για την επίτευξη των στόχων της Εταιρείας και αναθεωρεί τις επιδόσεις της διαχείρισης και
(γ) να αναπτύξει και να προωθήσει το συλλογικό όραμά του για τον σκοπό, τον πολιτισμό, τις αξίες και τις συμπεριφορές που επιθυμεί να προωθήσει στην επιχειρηματική δραστηριότητα και να διασφαλίσει ότι κατανοούνται και πληρούνται οι υποχρεώσεις του προς τους μετόχους και άλλους.
3.2 Στον ρόλο σας ως μη εκτελεστικού Διευθυντή, θα πρέπει επίσης να:
α) να διαθέσετε επαρκή χρόνο για την αποτελεσματική εκτέλεση των καθηκόντων σας,
(β) αφιερώσετε χρόνο για να αναπτύξετε και να ανανεώσετε τις γνώσεις και τις δεξιότητές σας,
(γ) να διατηρείται υψηλά πρότυπα ακεραιότητας και να υποστηρίζεται τους εκτελεστικούς Διευθυντές στην ενδυνάμωση της κατάλληλης κουλτούρας, αξιών και συμπεριφορών στην αίθουσα συνεδριάσεων και πέραν αυτής,
δ) εποικοδομητική πρόκληση και συμβολή στην ανάπτυξη στρατηγικής,
(ε) λαμβάνεται υπόψη τις απόψεις των μετόχων και των λοιπών ενδιαφερομένων, όπου ενδείκνυται.
(ζ) ελέγχεται την απόδοση της διοίκησης στην επίτευξη των συμφωνηθέντων στόχων και να παρακολουθείτε τις αναφορές των επιδόσεων,
(η) βεβαιωθείτε ότι οι οικονομικές πληροφορίες είναι ακριβείς και ότι οι οικονομικοί έλεγχοι και τα συστήματα διαχείρισης κινδύνου είναι εύρωστοι και υπερασπιστικοί.
(θ) να συμμορφώνεστε με τα καθήκοντά σας ως εκ του νόμου, του καταπιστευματικού ή του κοινού δικαίου ως Διευθυντής της Εταιρείας.
(ι) επιτελείτε με επιμέλεια τα καθήκοντά σας και προσπαθείτε να προωθήσετε, να προστατεύσετε, να αναπτύξετε και να επεκτείνετε τις δραστηριότητες της Εταιρείας ιδιαίτερα διεθνώς.
3.3 Έχετε το δικαίωμα να ζητήσετε όλες τις σχετικές πληροφορίες σχετικά με τις υποθέσεις της Εταιρείας όπως είναι λογικά αναγκαίες για να μπορέσετε να εκπληρώσετε τα καθήκοντά σας.

4. Αμοιβές
4.1 Θα τιμολογείτε την Εταιρεία για τις υπηρεσίες σας με αμοιβή 2.000 ευρώ το μήνα. Θα πρέπει να εξοφλείστε την ή περίπου την έβδομη ημέρα του μήνα, που έπεται της παραλαβής του τιμολογίου.
4.2 Η Εταιρεία θα σας επιστρέψει όλα τα εύλογα και καταλλήλως τεκμηριωμένα έξοδα που σας αναλογούν κατά την εκτέλεση των καθηκόντων του γραφείου σας, συμπεριλαμβανομένων όλων των πτήσεων από και προς την Ελλάδα.
4.3 Η επιχείρηση εξετάζει την αύξηση του μετοχικού κεφαλαίου κατά το πρώτο εξάμηνο του ημερολογιακού έτους 2020. Εάν η αύξηση αυτή είναι επιτυχής, θα σας χορηγηθούν επιλογές μεταξύ 1,5% και 3% του μετοχικού κεφαλαίου της Nautilia.

5. Εξωτερικά συμφέροντα
5.1 Είναι αποδεκτό και αναγνωρίζεται ότι έχετε επιχειρηματικά συμφέροντα διαφορετικά από εκείνα της Εταιρείας και έχετε δηλώσει οποιεσδήποτε συγκρούσεις που είναι εμφανείς προς το παρόν. Εάν αντιληφθείτε τυχόν πιθανές συγκρούσεις συμφερόντων, θα πρέπει να γνωστοποιούνται στον Πρόεδρο και στον γραμματέα της εταιρείας αμέσως μόλις το αντιληφθείτε.

6. Εμπιστευτικότητα
6.1 Όλες οι πληροφορίες που αποκτήθηκαν κατά τη διάρκεια του διορισμού σας είναι εμπιστευτικές για την Εταιρεία και δεν πρέπει να αποκαλυφθούν σε τρίτους ή να χρησιμοποιηθούν για οποιονδήποτε λόγο εκτός από το συμφέρον της Εταιρείας, είτε κατά τη διάρκεια του διορισμού σας είτε μετά τη λήξη (με οποιονδήποτε τρόπο) από τον Διευθύνοντα Σύμβουλο.
6.2 Εφιστάται επίσης η προσοχή σας στις απαιτήσεις τόσο της νομοθεσίας όσο και της νομοθεσίας σχετικά με την αποκάλυψη εμπιστευτικών πληροφοριών. Κατά συνέπεια, θα πρέπει να αποφύγετε τυχόν δηλώσεις που ενδέχεται να θέσουν σε κίνδυνο την παραβίαση αυτών των απαιτήσεων χωρίς προηγούμενη έγκριση από τον Διευθύνοντα Σύμβουλο.

7. Ασφάλιση
7.1 Η Εταιρεία έχει ασφάλιση αστικής ευθύνης των διευθυντικών στελεχών και των στελεχών της και προτίθεται να διατηρήσει αυτή την κάλυψη για όλη τη διάρκεια του διορισμού σας. Ένα αντίγραφο του εγγράφου πολιτικής διατίθεται από τον Διευθύνοντα Σύμβουλο.

8. Προστασία δεδομένων
8.1 Με την υπογραφή της παρούσας επιστολής, συναινείτε στην κατοχή και επεξεργασία πληροφοριών από την Εταιρεία σχετικά με εσάς για νομικούς, προσωπικούς, διοικητικούς και διαχειριστικούς σκοπούς και ειδικότερα για την επεξεργασία οποιωνδήποτε ευαίσθητων προσωπικών δεδομένων) που σχετίζονται με εσάς, συμπεριλαμβανομένων, κατά περίπτωση:
(α) πληροφορίες σχετικά με τη σωματική ή ψυχική υγεία ή την κατάστασή σας, προκειμένου να παρακολουθείτε την άδεια ασθενείας και να λαμβάνετε αποφάσεις σχετικά με την καταλληλότητά σας για εργασία. ή
(β) τη φυλετική ή εθνική καταγωγή ή τις θρησκευτικές ή παρόμοιες πεποιθήσεις σας, προκειμένου να ελέγξετε τη συμμόρφωση με τη νομοθεσία περί ίσων ευκαιριών. ή
(γ) πληροφορίες σχετικά με οποιαδήποτε ποινική διαδικασία στην οποία εμπλέκεστε για λόγους ασφάλισης και προκειμένου να συμμορφωθείτε με τις νομικές απαιτήσεις και υποχρεώσεις έναντι τρίτων.
8.2 Συμφωνείτε ότι η Εταιρεία θα διαθέτει αυτές τις πληροφορίες σε οποιαδήποτε από τις εταιρείες του ομίλου της, εκείνες που παρέχουν προϊόντα ή υπηρεσίες στην Εταιρεία (όπως συμβούλους και διαχειριστές μισθοδοσίας), ρυθμιστικές αρχές, δυνητικούς ή μελλοντικούς εργοδότες, κυβερνητικές ή οιονεί κυβερνητικές οργανώσεις τους δυνητικούς αγοραστές της Εταιρείας ή την επιχείρηση στην οποία εργάζεστε.
8.3 Συμφωνείτε επίσης να μεταφέρετε τέτοιες πληροφορίες στις επιχειρηματικές επαφές της Εταιρείας εκτός του Ευρωπαϊκού Οικονομικού Χώρου για την προώθηση των επιχειρηματικών της συμφερόντων.

9. Κυβερνητικό δίκαιο και δικαιοδοσία
9.1 Η παρούσα συμφωνία και οποιαδήποτε διαφορά ή αξίωση που απορρέει από ή σε σχέση με αυτήν ή το αντικείμενο ή το σχηματισμό της (συμπεριλαμβανομένων των εξωσυμβατικών διαφορών ή αξιώσεων) διέπεται και ερμηνεύεται σύμφωνα με την ελληνική νομοθεσία.

10. Πλήρης Συμφωνία και Παραλλαγή
10.1 Η παρούσα συμφωνία και κάθε έγγραφο που αναφέρεται σε αυτήν αποτελεί το σύνολο της συμφωνίας μεταξύ των μερών και αντικαθιστά όλες τις προηγούμενες συζητήσεις, αλληλογραφία, διαπραγματεύσεις, ρυθμίσεις, συμφωνίες και συμφωνίες μεταξύ τους.
10.2 Κάθε συμβαλλόμενο μέρος αναγνωρίζει ότι κατά τη σύναψη της παρούσας συμφωνίας δεν βασίζεται πάνω της και δεν θα έχει καμία ισχύ σε σχέση με οποιαδήποτε προσυμβατική δήλωση.

Si tratta di un manuale che descrive esattamente ciò che ho vissuto, senza edulcorazioni per far sembrare le cose più facili di quanto in realtà siano, senza entusiastiche promesse di rosee prospettive e con un approccio ispirato a un sano realismo.

Imparare a giocare secondo le regole richiede tempo, disciplina, umiltà, pazienza, fatica, perseveranza, grinta e determinazione.
Tutti fattori necessari anche per leggere queste pagine.
No, non preoccuparti, sto scherzando!

Non sono fondamentali durante la lettura ma dopo, per mettere in pratica ciò che hai appreso.
Per noi, figli della cultura del “tutto e subito” e del “plug and play”, quelle medesime risorse sono molto difficili da maneggiare. Anzi, se possibile, meglio mantenersi a distanza di sicurezza.

Oggi infatti è l’epoca della dipendenza da qualsiasi cosa che anestetizzi, semplifichi e riduca la fatica (può essere il denaro, le medicine, la tecnologia, l’alcol, il guru, la fede...). Tutto va bene pur di impegnarsi o esporsi il meno possibile.

Guardare la vita come un gioco in cui per vincere bisogna lavorare sodo e andare fino in fondo alle cose non rappresenta una novità assoluta. È infatti esattamente la medesima prospettiva che già duemila anni fa la saggezza popolare dell’antica Roma suggeriva come condizione imprescindibile per realizzare un’impresa elevata e ambiziosa: per aspera ad astra, che significa attraverso le difficoltà si arriva alle stelle.

Ed è proprio ciò che ti sto proponendo: un percorso per cui è richiesto di essere forti e tenaci e che ha come premio il progressivo assaporare la felicità.

The Lottery

The morning of June 27th was clear and sunny, with the fresh warmth of a full-summer day; the flowers were blossoming profusely, and the grass was richly green. The people of the village began to gather in the square, between the post office and the bank, around ten o’clock; in some towns there were so many people that the lottery took two days and had to be started on June 26th, but in this village, where there were only about three hundred people, the whole lottery took only about two hours, so it could begin at ten o’clock in the morning and still be through in time to allow the villagers to get home for noon dinner.

The children assembled first, of course. School was recently over for the summer, and the feeling of liberty sat uneasily on most of them; they tended to gather together quietly for a while before they broke into boisterous play, and their talk was still of the classroom and the teacher, of books and reprimands. Bobby Martin had already stuffed his pockets full of stones, and the other boys soon followed his example, selecting the smoothest and roundest stones; Bobby and Harry Jones and Dickie Delacroix—the villagers pronounced this name “Dellacroy”—eventually made a great pile of stones in one corner of the square and guarded it against the raids of the other boys. The girls stood aside, talking among themselves, looking over their shoulders at the boys, and the very small children rolled in the dust or clung to the hands of their older brothers or sisters.

Νυχτοβάτης

Ο Νυχτοβάτης κοιτούσε το γυμνό του είδωλο στο μεγάλο, όρθιο, οβάλ καθρέφτη.
Για πολλή ώρα έμεινε ανέκφραστος.

Για κάποιον παράξενο λόγο, ήξερε ότι ερχόταν η στιγμή που το είδωλο θα συνομιλούσε μαζί του.

Για κάποιον άλλο παράξενο λόγο, ήταν έτοιμος γι’αυτή τη συνομιλία.
Κι έτσι, δεν τον πτόησαν οι αμείλικτοι αιφνιδιασμοί.

Κλήθηκε να αντιμετωπίσει τον πρώτο όταν αντίκρισε το πρόσωπό του. Δεν εμφανιζόταν ολόκληρο. Σχεδόν το μισό έλειπε. Μισό πρόσωπο δεν σημαίνει μισή ύπαρξη, σκέφτηκε, σημαίνει διπλός μόχθος για να χτίσεις την επάρκεια της ψευδαίσθησης.

Κλήθηκε να αντιμετωπίσει το δεύτερο όταν διέκρινε τα έντονα, σκούρα σημάδια στο ένα του χέρι, λίγο πάνω από τον αφαλό και στα πόδια του. Ήταν πλατιές, γκρίζες κηλίδες.

Ανασαίνουν, σκέφτηκε και τον ρίγησε η λέξη που δεν τόλμησε να γίνει ήχος. Κι ύστερα αντίκρισε τον τρίτο, τον ισχυρότερο αιφνιδιασμό.

Το είδωλό του… παλλόταν… έτρεμε… σα να ήταν μια παράξενη ολογραμμική προβολή και όχι η πιστή αποτύπωσή του. Σα να επρόκειτο για μια φασματική εικόνα χαμηλής ενέργειας που πάλευε να κρατηθεί, να μην σβήσει, να παραμείνει ζωντανή…

Πεθαίνω, σκέφτηκε ξανά και τούτη η τρομερή λέξη δεν είχε κανένα βάρος, καμιά θλίψη, κανένα συναισθηματικό περιεχόμενο. Ήταν μια απλή, καθαρή, σχεδόν κλινική διάγνωση.

Σήκωσε το αριστερό του χέρι και παρακολουθούσε να επαναλαμβάνει τη κίνηση το είδωλό του. Χάιδεψε το λαιμό του και το στήθος του. Και τότε το είδε για πρώτη φορά. Το είδωλό του πονούσε. Το απαλό αυτό ταξίδι στο σώμα προκάλεσε έναν μορφασμό δυσαρέσκειας στο τεμαχισμένο πρόσωπο του ειδώλου του. Μπορούσε να το δει καθαρά. Το φάσμα του πονούσε και αυτόματα έριξε ξανά το χέρι του κάτω.

Επανέλαβε το ίδιο μετά με το άλλο του χέρι. Το έφερε πάνω από το σημείο των γεννητικών του οργάνων. Όταν τα άγγιξε ο ίδιος μορφασμός ζωγραφίστηκε στο μισό πρόσωπο.

Το είδωλό του τρεμόπαιξε έντονα. Για μια στιγμή μάλιστα, ήταν σίγουρος γι’αυτό, χάθηκε εντελώς… πέρασε μια άπειρη στιγμή ώσπου να το ξαναδεί να αχνοσχηματίζεται εκ νέου στον καθρέφτη εμπρός του.

Μικραίνω… μικραίνω όλο και πιο πολύ… μονολόγησε μελαγχολικά και για πρώτη φορά επέτρεψε τη φωνή του να ηχήσει στο δωμάτιο. Εκείνο που είναι να αυξηθεί πρέπει να ανθίσει… εκείνο που είναι να συρρικνωθεί πρέπει να εκλείψει… είπε ξανά και ύστερα σίγησε.

Ο Νυχτοβάτης αισθάνθηκε μια παρουσία δίπλα του. Ήταν ο αδελφός του, ένας λευκός θηριώδης λύκος που κάθε πανσέληνο τον επισκεπτόταν για λίγες ώρες ως το ξημέρωμα. Ο λύκος ανάσαινε αργά και τον πλησίασε με προσοχή. Μετά κούρνιασε στα πόδια του.

The Nightrider

The Nightrider looked at his naked reflection in the large, upright, oval mirror.
For a long time, he remained expressionless.

He knew that the moment was coming when the reflection would talk to him for some strange reason.

For some other strange reason, he was ready for this conversation.
And so, he was not intimidated by the relentless surprises.

He was called to confront the first one when he saw his face. It did not appear whole. Almost half of it was missing. Half a look does not mean half existence, he thought; it means double effort to build up the adequacy of illusion.

He was called to face the second when he saw the strong, dark marks on one hand, just above the navel and on his legs. They were wide, grey spots.

They breathe, he thought and shivered at the word that did not dare to become a sound. And then he faced the third, the biggest surprise.

His reflection pulsed and trembled... as if it were a strange holographic projection rather than a faithful representation of him. It was like a low-energy spectral image struggling to hold on, keep from fading, and stay alive...

I am dying, he thought again, and this terrible word had no weight, no sadness, no emotional content. It was a simple, precise, almost clinical diagnosis.

He raised his left hand and watched his reflection repeat the motion. He stroked his neck and chest. And then he saw it for the first time. His reflection was in pain. This gentle journey through the body caused a grimace of displeasure to appear on his reflection's shredded face. He could see it clearly. His spectre ached, and he automatically dropped his hand down again.

He then repeated the same with his other hand. He brought it over his genital area. The same grimace was painted on half his face when he touched them.

His reflection flickered intensely. He was sure of it; it was utterly lost... it was an infinite moment before he saw it again, fading anew in the mirror.

I'm getting smaller... I'm getting smaller and smaller... he monologued melancholically and, for the first time, allowed his voice to echo in the room. That which is to grow must blossom... that which is to shrink must die out... he said again, and then he was silent.

The Nightrider felt a presence beside him. His brother, a beastly white wolf, visited him every full moon for a few hours until dawn. The wolf was slowly rising and approached him cautiously. Then he crouched at his feet.

Κεφάλαιο 1o. Ο πειρασμός

Άλλη μια μέρα ξεκινά... Καθώς ετοίμαζα το πρωινό μας, ταυτόχρονα προγραμμάτιζα την μέρα μου... Είχα τόσο άγχος για σήμερα... ένα κακό προαίσθημα... αυτή μας η προσπάθεια ή θα μας έκανε πιο ευτυχισμένους ή θα μας χαντάκωνε περισσότερο.

«Καλημέρα γυναίκα της ζωής μου» τον άκουσα να μου λέει γλυκά και άφησε ένα τρυφερό φιλί πάνω στην κορυφή του κεφαλιού μου.

«Καλημέρα αγάπη μου, πως κοιμήθηκες;» του το ανταπέδωσα γλυκά και αφού έβαλα καφέ στην κούπα του, έκατσα δίπλα του και άρχισα να αλείφω μια φρυγανιά με βούτυρο.

«Πολύ καλά, εσύ;» με ρώτησε ευδιάθετα και αναστέναξα.

«Πιο χάλια δεν γίνεται» είπα κάνοντας μια γκριμάτσα πόνου και χαμογέλασε με κατανόηση καθώς μου χάιδευε τον ώμο μου τρυφερά.

«Καρδιά μου μην έχεις τόσο άγχος, θα δεις αυτήν την φορά θα πάνε όλα καλά... Έχω ένα πολύ καλό προαίσθημα γι’ αυτό» μου είπε με αυτοπεποίθηση και ήθελα τόσο πολύ να νιώσω και εγώ το ίδιο... αλλά κάτι τέτοιο δεν συνέβη.

«Εγώ πάλι όχι» είπα ξεψυχισμένα και με έκλεισε στην ζεστή του αγκαλιά για να με καθησυχάσει.

«Κακός που δέχτηκα να έρθει ο ανιψιός μου... μέσα σε όλο σου το άγχος...» τον διέκοψα καθώς του χαμογέλασα γλυκά.

«Άλεξ τα είπαμε αυτά... Ο ανιψιός σου είναι μεγάλο παιδί... θα πάρει την σοφίτα και στην ουσία θα είναι σαν να μην είναι μέσα στο σπίτι... Το μόνο που θα έχω να κάνω, είναι να μαγειρεύω για τρία άτομα αντί για δύο... Η Μαργαρίτα θα έρχεται πιο συχνά για την καθαριότητα, οπότε γιατί να μην εξυπηρετήσουμε την ξαδέλφη σου... Πραγματικά δεν είναι πρόβλημα αλήθεια» του είπα καθησυχαστικά και αναστέναξε.

«Είσαι σίγουρη;» με ρώτησε για πολλοστή φορά και στριφογύρισα τα μάτια μου.

«Απόλυτα» του είπα πιο αποφασιστικά και μου χαμογέλασε.

«Είσαι ένας άγγελος» μου απάντησε και μου έδωσε ένα γλυκό φιλί.

«Τι ώρα θα έρθει;» τον ρώτησα για μια ακόμα φορά.

«Δεν είσαι και πολύ συγκεντρωμένη αυτές τις μέρες» διαπίστωσε με ένα λυπημένο ύφος.

«Είμαι αρκετά αφηρημένη, είναι η αλήθεια» είπα απολογητικά.

«Μην σε απασχολεί αυτό, θα πάω να τον πάρω από το κτελ το μεσημέρι και θα έρθουμε μαζί» με ενημέρωσε και εγώ κατένευσα αφηρημένα.

«Οκ τότε» του είπα και συνεχίσαμε το πρωινό μας χωρίς να ανταλλάξουμε καμία άλλη κουβέντα... ο κάθε ένας μας βυθισμένος μέσα στον δικό του κόσμο.

«Θα πας στην κλινική τώρα;» με ρώτησε την ώρα που έβαζε το σακάκι του για να φύγει για το γραφείο, αποσπώντας μου την προσοχή.

«Όχι πρέπει πρώτα να πάω από τον γιατρό να μου γράψει ακριβός τι πρέπει να πάρω, μετά να πάω από το φαρμακείο να τα πάρω και μετά θα πάω στην κλινική για έλεγχο και να κάνω και την πρώτη ένεση» τον ενημέρωσα και εκείνος κατένευσε.

«Καλό κουράγιο γλυκιά μου» είπε για να μου δώσει δύναμη ενώ με έκλεινε στην αγκαλιά του και του χαμογέλασα ζεστά.

«Σε ευχαριστώ καρδιά μου και εσύ το ίδιο» του απάντησα τρυφερά και του έδωσα ένα βαθύ φιλί πριν φύγει.

Chapter 1o. The Temptation

Another day begins... As I was preparing our breakfast, I was simultaneously planning my day... I was so anxious about today… I had a bad feeling... that this effort of ours would either make us happier or ditch us further.

"Good morning, love of my life", I heard him say sweetly to me, and he gave me a tender kiss on the top of my head.

"Good morning, my love; how did you sleep?" I returned the kiss sweetly, and after pouring coffee into his cup, I sat down next to him and started spreading a toast with butter.

"Very well, how about you?" he asked me cheerfully, and I sighed.

"I don't think it couldn't be any worse," I said, grimacing in pain, and he smiled at me caringly as he caressed my shoulder tenderly.

"Sweetheart, don't be so anxious; you'll see that everything will go well... I have a good feeling about it," he told me confidently, and I wanted so much to feel the same... but such a thing did not happen.

"Not me again," I said breathlessly, and he wrapped me in his warm arms to reassure me.

"Too bad I agreed to let my nephew come… in all your stress..." I interrupted him as I smiled sweetly at him.

"Alex, we talked about this... Your nephew is a big boy... he's going to take the attic, and it'll be like he's not even in the house... All I'll have to do is cook for three people instead of two... Margarita will come more often for the cleaning, so why not help your cousin? It's not a problem," I told him reassuringly, and he sighed.

"Are you sure?" he asked me for the umpteenth time, and I rolled my eyes.

"Absolutely," I said firmly, and he smiled at me.

"You're an angel", he replied and gave me a sweet kiss.

"What time will it be?" I asked him once again.

"You're not very focused these days," he observed with a sad look.

"I'm quite distracted, it's true," I said apologetically.

"Don't worry about that; I'll pick him up from the bus stop at noon, and we'll go together", he informed me, and I nodded absently.

"Ok then," I told him, and we continued our breakfast without exchanging any more words, immersed in our world.

"Are you going to the clinic now?" he asked as he put on his jacket to leave for the office, distracting me.

"No, I must first go to the doctor to get a proper prescription for the meds I should be taking, then I have to go by the pharmacy to get them, and then I'll go to the clinic for a check-up and to get the first injection" I informed him, and he nodded off.

"Hang in there, sweetie," he said to give me strength as he held me in his arms, and I smiled at him with affection.

"Thank you, my dear, and you too," I replied tenderly and gave him a deep kiss before leaving.
