I'm wondering what 'continencia' means in the context of this sentence. The topic of the document is discussing people with schizophrenia.
Here's the full sentence:

It would be useful to know if this (ostensibly poorly written) text is from Mexico, as mooted.
Anyway, the present - as opposed to future subjunctive mood that an English lawyer at the Madrid law office bet me 100 pesetas half a century ago didn't exist - could IMO denote either a measure of doubt, likelihood or reported speech:

"Families provide emotional, physical and financial care and support to their members". Esta sería la idea que traslada "continencia familiar/afectiva".
Podría hablarse tal vez de "family caregiving" o de "family caregiving capacity", con la especificación de "(emotional, physical and financial [monetary/economic] support)" para traducir fielmente ese "continencia familiar/afectiva".
I.e.
family caregiving (emotional, physical and monetary support)
Agree with you also on the "odd" subjunctive mood (tense: presente de subjuntivo) being used in the reference sentence (but I would like to see the whole paragraph).
I believe the best translation would be ¨support from family members or loved ones¨.
The text might not be very well written. The verb in subjunctive sounds out of place and it seems obvious by vulnerability they mean NOT having access to treatments, etc¨.
