French term

2OUAp

French to English Medical Medical (general)
I am really struggling with the meaning of '2OUAp' written in a medical report regarding a patient with chest pains:

FR : tabac 2OUAp, stoppé il y a 8 mois

It could be 20UAp as the source text is very difficult to make out.

Thanks

20 pack-years

20 unités de paquet-années = 20 UAP = 20 pack-years
Measure of acculmulated exposure to cigarettes.
from ref:
"Le paquet-année, ou PA, est une unité de mesure de la consommation de tabac. Elle est utilisée notamment pour évaluer le risque d'apparition du cancer du poumon. Un paquet-année correspond à la consommation de 1 paquet de cigarettes par jour pendant 1 an ; par exemple, fumer 2 paquets par jour pendant 10 ans c'est avoir une consommation de 20 PA. On estime que le risque de cancer apparaît à partir d'une consommation de 20 PA[1]."

agree Helen Genevier : UAP année-paquets is a bit unusual though, isn't it. /I just mean it's usually put the other way round, as paquet-années, though here's a UAP link http://209.85.129.132/search?q=cache:dWwYmqSygE4J:www.md.ucl...

disagree Trinh Do : It would be UPA in this case; you were making assumptions from tobacco

20 UAP

I'm sure that it's 20 (twenty) UAP, but I can't find what exactly it refers to, I'm afraid - it's clearly a term used in hospital medicine referring to a measure of pulmonary capacity or something similar (see example, page 10)
Peer comment(s):

neutral Trinh Do : You were close but not clear about the explanation

neutral Helen Genevier : In your link, 40 UAP is 40 pack-years. It is referring to Risch et al. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8395141?ordinalpos=17&ito...

20 minutes of unstable angina pectoris episodes

UAP = unstable angina pectoris. The symptons occur between 5 and 20 minutes without warning; given the fact that the patient has chest pains, the symptoms match those of this cardiovascular disease. Also, tobacco is related to angina.

disagree SJLD : no sorry, this makes no sense at all
