folding

English Medical Psychology Autism learning aid
The context: A list of objects that can help children with autism learn numbers. Here we go:

...including: rulers, timers, counters, shapes, weighing scales, folding. ...

What is folding here? A tool to fold, but what is its relation to learn to count/understand numbers? Is there an ommitted noun, just e.g. only: folding meter?

All helps are welcome and appreciated!

paper-folding fractions

“To become effective users of multiplication and division, students need to develop an understanding of the role of factors in these operations. For example, multiplying by two then five is the same as multiplying by ten, dividing by four is the same as dividing by two then two again. The relationship between division and fractions is also an important one to identify. This practical activity helps students to start exploring such relationships.”

Hope this helps! :)

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks Marcos. Yours is highly likely since the text is very specific in talking about maths/numbers."

misuse of a verb form in a list of objects

rulers, timers, counters, shapes, weighing scales form a list of objects which can help these children. Folding things (paper, napkins etc.) can also help them, but the verb form should not be included in the list, it should be in a separate clause or sentence.
Peer comment(s):

neutral David Moore (X) : Maybe 'paper' has been left out, but I don't agree this is misuse - it is a noun-fom of a verb, after all - isn't it?

This is a list of objects, or so the asker says, the word "objects" is not in the context supplied. If it is, folding is not a physical object so I think its inclusion in the list is inappropriate.
neutral B D Finch : We really don't know without being given the following text, but it could be just as appropriate as "weighing" before it, if it is used in the source text to qualify a noun.
