English term

through the writing and the selected works of others

English Other Esoteric practices
Hello everyone,

Could you please explain to me the meaning of the phrase "through the writing and the selected works of others" in the following context (dialogue between the author of the book and beings from Sirius):

To heal the waters of Gaia, you must now unite forces and work on etheric planes, where the focused intent of all lightwork teams unites under one objective: the reestablishment of harmonic overtones of the music of the seas in dynamic synthesis with the elements of fire, air, and earth. That is the key.

Earth's warn vibration, the music of Gaia's soul, must be cleared of the electromagnetic pulse of destruction, rage, and the violent mind.

You can call upon the ascended Dolphin Beings and Great Whales for guidance, if you are open to receiving them at the telepathic, empathic levels. They will come. They can reach you on many levels.

Therefore, bring the word, the music, the light, and your knowledge ***through the writing and the selected works of others***, just as you bring forth your own visions—for this is your mission. Be sure to allow your emotional experience of this most important issue to flow through you, allowing the expression to take form as it moves through you, trusting that you are guided and assisted on all levels.

I think I understand the first part of the phrase (through the writing) -- the author should write books containing her dialogues with these beings from Sirius, but what does "through selected works of others" mean in this context? Does it imply that the author should share her knowledge with other people to help them write similar books?

Thank you.

My interpretation I basically agree with missdutch. I read it as:

Therefore, bring the following:
1. the word;
2. the music;
3. the light; AND
4. your knowledge through the writing and the selected works of others.

As Sheila has already pointed out, 'the writing and the selected works of others' = the writing of others and the selected works of others.

So, the 4th item can be expanded into: your knowledge through the writing of others AND your knowledge through the selected works of others. The writing and selected works of others constitute the channel from which you attain your knowledge. The selected works of others probably pertain to those that are useful to healing the waters of Gaia.

Just my two cents.

I can't say I understand it all but grammatically-speaking, it ought to mean that all these things (word, music, light and knowledge) should be brought [to heal the waters of Gaia] through the writing and selected works of others. It reads to me as though "writing" and "works" both refer to "others". @Tony - but this is the author (possibly Peter Hamilton???) speaking to natives of Sirius, so we can't be sure it's a non-native text. What I'd like to know is what language the Asker has to translate it into - Siriusian? If so, please do try not to spark a pan-galactic war by mis-translations! :-)

How can I possibly argue with Dr Spock, a.k.a. Tony M? A very merry Christmas to you!
Oh, and "Your service honors us";-)
Tony M Dec 23, 2010:
Well, at least you're a bit closer ;-) I can see why you might think that, but FWIW, my instinctive reading was that the "through" followed on from "...bring the word...", rather than 'knowledge'; this would make some grammatical sense without needing to assume actual missing text, a your interpretation has to.

"Live long and prosper!" — or whatever the Sirian equivalent is!
P.L.F. Persio Dec 23, 2010:
Just like the visitor from Sirius, I'm not native either, however, probably because of that, I understand this sentence such as follows: "... and your knowledge [that you received] through the writing and the selected works of others."
Tony M Dec 23, 2010:
Quirky English! ...not entirely surprising, for a non-native speaker from Sirius!

I think it basically means 'through your own writing, and also by disseminating selected books (etc.) by other writers' — what is not very clear is the overall structure of the whole sentence, and in particular, just what is meant by "bring the word... etc." — I am assuming it probably means something like 'spread the word' (hence the idea of dissemination)

Selected

the knowledge gathered from other people's writings/books

The knowledge that you (the) have accumulated by reading what other people wrote - but only books or scripts that you have chosen with care and only those which include references or statements to Gaia.

be a conduit to transmit terrestrial culture (not just your own ideas)

i.e. share art, music and literature with the dolphins etc.
