Fire reporting is a legislated requirement and the Office of the Fire Commissioner maintains an electronic Fire Loss Reporting System that records all BC fire loss statistics. Information collected yearly assists in areas such as public education planning, Building and Fire Code changes and identifying trends in fire loss.

Fire reporting is carried out mainly by the Alberta fire rescue services who respond to fire emergencies and by the insurance industry, which handles claims on fire losses. Reporting of fire incidents can be either electronic or on paper. The electronic reporting is enabled through the milenet website that houses the Fire Electronic Reporting System (FERS). Fire reporting agencies can obtain secure access to FERS by signing a milenet agreement. Fillable pdf fire incident reports are posted here.
