English term

"Golden Boys"

Not for points English to Japanese Other Slang
My son just bought his first car... a 2003 Nissan 350Z... and is fascinated with the Japanese culture. He and his friends, with similar type cars (imports), have a group name... "Golden Boys". He is thinking of getting some stickers made with that phase/term on it for he and his friends to put on their cars. I was thinking that instead of putting that in English on the stickers, to put it in Japanese... but don't want to suggest the Japanese translated term and it ending up being something totally different, as some terms are "lost in the translation", so to speak. I've heard too many stories of someone translating a phase literally, and it actually coming out as something totally different and/or doesn't make sense.

Google Translator translates "Golden Boys" to ゴールデンボーイズ in Japanese, but would like to know/confirm if that actually translates appropriately and/or accurately. (https://translate.google.com/#auto/ja/Golden Boys)

What would the term "Golden Boy" (or boys), as in someone who is everybody's favorite... be in Japanese? (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=golden boy)

Thanks all,
Dave

ゴールデン・ボーイズ

I think this would be the most apt translation. Strictly speaking it's a transliteration and is "Golden Boys" (goh-ru-den boh-ee-zu) in English though the term is used similarly and is widely understood.
It is unlikely that a synonym using kanji (Chinese characters) would be used to translate "golden boys" into Japanese.

人気者

I would translate it as 人気者. It means someone who is popular among friends/people. ゴールデンボーイズ is a transliteration. I think most of Japanese people do not know ゴールデンボーイズ (golden boys) means someone who is everybody's favorite in English.

Also, according to Wikipedia, there are a Japanese comedy duo named "ゴールデンボーイズ" and a pokemon-themed manga called "ゴールデン・ボーイズ." Japanese people may associate ゴールデンボーイズ with these.

Example sentence:

息子は学校の人気者。
